Fire System Design Works
Fire System Design Works is our stand alone fire sprinkler design center of excellence to serve architects, general contractors, building owners and others with fire sprinkler designs meeting the highest industry standards. Our designs are backed by the certifications and accreditations of our experienced design team members coupled with ongoing continuing education. Our goal is to make sure we deliver the right system to keep you safe—whether it’s wet or dry pipe, foam, deluge or others. We are connected to our customers from the very first contact at project requests to kick-offs to completion and beyond. We apply value engineering principles to each job allowing us to help minimize job costs while tracking and managing to labor budgets. Each design is put through rigorous quality standards to ensure project accuracy. Fire System Design Works employees utilize leading industry design software such as HdyraCAD, HydraCALC, HydraLIST, Revit and others to deliver designs promptly while providing accuracy in drawings, hydraulic calculations and fabrication lists.
Using AutoCAD and 3D Building Information Modeling software, we design sprinkler systems that meet NFPA standards and codes. Our services cover full fire protection needs, employing advanced Hydratec software like HydraCAD, HydraCALC, and HydraLIST for accurate drawings, hydraulic calculations, and fabrication lists.
For certain projects, we can design using the Revit platform. We combine our tools to deliver top-notch designs and timely project completion.

Our Systems
-
Wet pipe sprinkler systems are a common type of fire protection system found in heated spaces where the temperature is maintained above 40°F. These systems consist of automatic sprinklers that are connected to water-filled pipes. In the event of a fire, the heat activates the sprinklers, causing water to be released and effectively control or extinguish the flames.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Office Buildings
Apartment Buildings
Retail Stores
-
In regions susceptible to freezing conditions with temperatures dropping below 40°F, these specialized systems come into play. They are equipped with automatic sprinklers connected to a network of pipes filled with pressurized air or nitrogen. Once a sprinkler opens and releases air, it triggers the dry pipe valve to open, facilitating the flow of water through the piping system and out of the activated sprinklers.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Coolers
Parking Garages
-
These systems, known as deluge systems, are primarily utilized to safeguard locations with elevated risks. In this setup, open sprinklers are affixed to a network of piping linked to a water supply via a valve, which remains shut until triggered by a detection system within the protected areas. Once activated, the valve unlocks, allowing water to course through the piping and discharge from all connected sprinklers simultaneously.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Cooling Towers
Transformers
Belt Conveyors
Flammable Liquids
-
These systems, known as pre-action systems, combine features from deluge and dry systems. They are equipped with closed sprinkler heads like dry systems and include automatic sprinklers connected to a pipe system. Depending on the design, they may or may not utilize pressurized air. Additionally, pre-action systems are equipped with a detection system within the protected areas. Their primary objective is to provide early warnings for potential fire hazards, system discharge, or damage, allowing proactive measures to be taken before water is discharged.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Server Rooms
Data Centers
Freezers
-
These systems, known for their high level of sophistication, demand a particular level of comprehension for successful design and installation. There is a variety of foam water systems available, including pre-primed wet dry pipe, deluge, pre-action, or spray type, each chosen based on the specific hazard and intended application. The foam concentrate utilized is a carefully selected type, injected through a device that accurately proportions it with the water supply. This mixture results in a foam solution that is subsequently discharged through the relevant outlet as required.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Aircraft Hangars
Storage Tanks
Exposure Protection
Flammable Liquids

Fire pumps are crucial components that enhance water pressure for fire sprinklers during emergencies. They play a vital role in situations where water pressure is inadequate or when there is no pressurized source accessible. These pumps are available in various types, with the horizontal split case and vertical turbine pumps being the most widely used. They are typically powered by electric motors, diesel engines, or steam turbines, ensuring reliable operation when needed.
